Fishing Update from Steamboat Boat Rentals for the week of July 12-19

Well the afternoon thunderstorms are in full effect and there should not be much of a fire season this summer at Stagecoach Lake or throughout Steamboat Springs.

That being said there are still lots of folks having a good time fishing at the Stagecoach Lake. Most mornings have been wonderful. A little rain and clouds only seem to keep the fish active. This is not the best time of year to catch trout but the wise anglers are still finding them. I recommend dry flies  early to mid morning and late afternoons. The chartreuse Power Bait on a Carolina rig always seems to work. The pike are still active and they are still hanging out on the grassy shoreline.  Think big and think shiny or bright. The big ones seem to attack out of irritation as much as out of interest so do not hesitate to be persistent.

Come on out and see us. We would love to help you make the most of this short summer season. Remember to call ahead  or email us for a fishing boat rental or pontoon boat rental reservation especially on the weekends. There are no shortage of fun seekers and we want to be ready and waiting to help you have a great and memorable day.

4th of July at Steamboat Boat Rentals

fireworkThe 4th of July weekend was a big hit. Great weather,  lots of fun and a great celebration all around. The Steamboat fireworks were nothing short of spectacular once again. It is hard to compete with that show – it is like a non-stop grand finale. A big thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers who make it happen. At the lake our new fleet of rental boats were well used.  I think every boat we own, motorized and non-motorized, was out for rent all day every day. Thank you so much for coming out and celebrating the 4th with us.
Our Monday – Thursday $50 off coupon for pontoon rentals is valid again for the rest of the summer. Our new sit on top Kayaks have lots of people excited. The single versions have fishing rod holders, dry storage and drink caddies. The tandem version is a great way to cruise around the lake with an extra set of arms. The Stand-Up Paddle board craze has not slowed and we do have a hard time keeping the 6 of them available, so be sure call us and make a reservation before coming out.
If you are not familiar with Wake you should check this out. Ben has a 22-ft Ski Centurion Competition Wake Board Boat and all the toys to have fun. If you have not tried wake surfing you must. It is exciting for all ages and at 8-10 mph the learning curve is very user friendly. Learn More….
Well the phone is ringing and the fun is on. Come out and see us. We would love to help you make the most of these great summer days.

Summer Fun at Stagecoach Marina

Greta-paddleboard

Summer is in full effect here at Stagecoach State Park.  The campgrounds are full and the sounds of laughter and fun are rising from the swim beach.  I almost don’t want to mention the lack of wind this season; we have seen more folks waterskiing on glass mid-afternoon than ever.

The water temperature is sitting around 70 degrees for the top 10 feet but fear not anglers the water temperatures are still averaging mid 50’s 20 feet down and the trout bite is still on.

The big pike stories are starting to pile up and the grassy shores are where you can find them.  Although the afternoon thunderstorms are inevitable, we have not experienced them yet this year, just lots of sun and mid to high 80’s.

Steamboat Springs is full of tourist and locals alike and our boat rentals have been filling up quickly so give us a call to make your reservation.  Our new fleet of pontoon boats have been a huge hit so far this season. Folks have been fishing, swimming and grilling up lots of fun.

We added a Boston Whaler 150 Supersport this summer for fishing and it has been way more popular than expected; we may need another. Regardless, whether you’re stopping by the store for an ice cream or wanting to rent a stand-up paddle board, come on out and see us at Stagecoach for some fantastic summer fun.

Fishing Report from Stagecoach Marina. Week of 5/22-5/28

whaler2Trout Fishing
Trout fishing has slowed some but they are still quite active. From shore the inlet is your best bet for finding decent size trout. A Carolina rig with green power bait or night crawlers is a proven technique.

Lure Fishing For Trout
As far as lure fishing for trout from shore I recommend Blue Fox Vibrax gold or blue and silver. The Kastmaster in either gold or rainbow trout are working as well.

Trolling For Trout
The trout are lying anywhere from 15- 30 feet down in the mid 50 degree water.  Perch color Rapalas are working well. I am a big Rapala fan and have also found Blue and Gold are working as well. The late evening gets them rising to the surface and dry flies are yielding lots of bites but the F-7 Gold Rapala is still king as far as I’m concerned.

Pike Fishing
Pike fishing is picking up. From shore the conditions are similar to trout fishing but a steel leader is recommended. We have seen many 40″+ pike caught from shore using Power Bait. They like to hang out in the shallow grassy beds so for fly-fishermen I recommend strip lining wooly buggers of brighter colors with a bead head. For the off-shore anglers, cast into the beds with larger stick bait or spoons. Perch color, as well as both rainbow or brown trout colors have been working.

Send us your pictures so we can post them on-line. If you need a fishing boat for trout or pike, stop into Stagecoach Marina at Stagecoach State Park. We have aluminum fishing boats for the experienced fisherman, a Boston Whaler for an afternoon out for Pontoon boat rentals for trolling.

Welcome to Steamboat Boat Rental’s Blog

Welcome to our blog! We’ll be posting a little bit of everything related to Stagecoach Marina from weather to fishing spots to boat discounts and more. We’ll also be tossing out a little bit of history about the sport of fishing, canoeing, paddleboarding and more.

June has been warm and sunny; a relief from the torrential rains Steamboat Springs experienced this May. In fact May went down as the wettest May in recorded history in Colorado. While we needed the rain, the balance of sun is much appreciated.

The sun has made June a busy month for us. Pontoon boats are out floating the marina daily. Paddleboarding rentals have increased considerably over last year with families ranging from grandmothers to grandchildren exploring the lake by paddleboard.

Fishing is always popular at the marina. For the fishermen and women we have a new Boston Whaler set up for fishing as well as our two aluminum fishing boats. If you’re interested in trolling, you can do that off the back of our 20’ or 22’ pontoon boats.

For those looking for a half day of entertainment we do offer $50.00 off any four- hour pontoon boat rental Monday through Thursday. That takes the price of a 20’ foot boat rental from $255 to $205. 20’ boats seat 8-10 people, so if everyone pitches in you are set for a great day. Don’t forget to bring burgers, brats and hotdogs as each of our pontoon boats come with a BBQ on back.

If you have questions about what we have to offer or you want to make a reservation, feel free to contact us at 970-736-8342.

Our website is brand new so we’d love to hear your thoughts on how it looks and how it works. Email us at info@stagecoachmarina.com
